And it last for a week .Vesak poya day is known as the festival of lights and it is the birth of Lord Buddha ,attaining of enlightment and his passing into nirvana. during Vesak week whole island become very beautiful and colorful by Vesak lanters and bulbs and also srilankns going to the temple on this day. Vesak is a wonderful festival for visitors too.

                  

                                                      KANDY  ESALA PERAHARA

                       Kandy esala perahara is a week long festival which consider the oldest of the Buddhist celebration. this festival is in the august month. The main purpose of this perahara is to pays homage to the tooth relic of Buddha. On those day thousands of sri lankans gathered to Kandy to see this great scenery. Elephants also take part in this parade and also travelers should not miss this great opportunity.
